Housing All Australians (HAA) and Faith Housing Australia (FHA) have formalised a strategic partnership to help unlock housing opportunities on underutilised faith-owned land and assets across Australia.
The partnership brings together HAA's private sector expertise and pro bono partner network with FHA's national network of faith-based housing providers, homelessness services and faith communities to identify and progress new housing opportunities, strengthen advocacy and share knowledge across sectors.
Housing All Australians CEO Dan McKenna said addressing Australia's housing challenge requires collaboration across communities, industry and the not-for-profit sector.
"Housing outcomes are strongest when communities, industry and not-for-profit organisations work together towards a shared purpose.
"This partnership brings together the reach and commitment of faith communities with the expertise of HAA's private sector partners to unlock opportunities that might not otherwise be realised, creating lasting benefits for communities across Australia."
Faith Housing Australia CEO Amanda Bailey said the partnership reflects growing momentum among faith communities seeking to contribute to housing solutions.
"Across Australia, faith organisations are exploring how disused and underutilised land and assets can help address housing need. This partnership connects those opportunities with the expertise, networks and practical support needed to turn ideas into housing outcomes that benefit local communities.
"Together, we want to help faith communities navigate the complexities of housing delivery and accelerate projects that provide affordable homes while strengthening the communities they serve."
The partnership builds on successful examples of cross-sector collaboration already emerging across the country.
One example is The Inner West Project in Sydney, a former faith-owned hospital site that was brought to life through a partnership involving Housing All Australians, TOGA and community sector partners. While awaiting redevelopment, the site has been transformed into temporary accommodation run by Jewish House and Women’s Community Shelters with support services for people experiencing homelessness, demonstrating how underutilised properties can deliver immediate community benefit.
FHA and HAA believe similar opportunities exist across Australia, with faith-owned land and assets playing an important role in addressing housing need while strengthening local communities.
