FHA emphasises the benefits of partnering with faith-based organisations with a long history of providing housing and support services. Faith Housing Australia’s submission supports the National Housing and Homelessness Plan Bill 2024, emphasising the need for a statutory basis to address Australia's housing emergency. FHA commends the Bill's recognition of housing as a human right and advocates for governance and accountability structures to ensure its successful implementation. Faith-based organisations are keen to play a significant role in providing new, well-located homes to help solve the current housing crisis across New South Wales. Yet, they are hampered by zoning constraints that prevent the use of many sites for integrated faith and housing developments. This submission documents case studies from joint advocacy with members Sydney Anglican Property and the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney.

Faith Housing Australia’s submission calls for the policy to be extended to include land zoned ‘special purpose’ and ‘place of public worship to allow faith communities to develop housing, including social and affordable housing.
