Our Purpose

Homelessness, Faith Housing Alliance

The faith sector, working together to help solve homelessness

Homelessness, and the threat of homelessness, is a burden facing too many people throughout our communities. Affordable housing is a necessary protection against homelessness and a pathway back to stability.

There is a significant and rising need for more affordable housing everywhere.

A need for more secure and affordable tenancies without the risk of eviction. A need for safe homes, healthy homes—not those that just scrape up to the boundary of an ‘adequate roof’. For too many people in our communities, this sort of housing is out of reach.

Our members play an important role in the fight against homelessness

We are of the view that solutions to homelessness and rental housing affordability must be addressed as a continuum of the life cycle as it occurs for youth, single adults, families, over 55s and the aging population more generally. Consideration must be given to health and special health needs varying across time and stages of the life cycle.

As a Faith Housing Alliance, we work for this purpose everyday alongside our members.

We believe the faith sector is an important part of the solution to homelessness and the lack of affordable housing in our community through advocacy, and by developing housing and services. The faith sector includes:

Faith-based organisations working to serve people and create stronger communities
Places of worship across all religions, whether church, synagogue, mosque or temple who want to use their land for housing justice
Faith Leaders of any denomination or religion who see housing as a critical component of social justice

Any individual, organisation, foundation or program committed to housing justice
