Faith Housing Australia Ready to Support Bold Housing Reforms Under Re-elected Albanese Government

Faith Housing Australia congratulates the Albanese Labor Government on its re-election for a second term. This victory signifies a continued commitment to the Housing Australia Future Fund, an historic initiative for critical investment in social and affordable housing established during the government’s first term.

“Faith Housing Australia congratulates Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Treasurer Jim Chalmers, Housing Minister Clare O’Neil, and the entire Labor team,” says CEO Rose Thomson.

“The opportunity of a majority government is to make swift progress in delivering election commitments and to demonstrate courageous leadership in pursuing the bold reforms needed to emphatically address Australia’s housing emergency,” Thomson said.

“While the current agenda will make significant strides, only a visionary approach will build the Australia that Prime Minister Albanese envisions—one of ‘fairness, aspiration, and opportunity for all.’”

In its first term, the government has pioneered a leadership role for the Commonwealth in housing, reminiscent of Chifley’s establishment of the first Commonwealth State Housing Agreement. A renewed commitment to coordinating funding and policy at all levels of government is critical.

Faith Housing Australia stands ready as a key partner for governments. With over 70 members whose impact dates to 1815 and the first housing response to people in need, faith-based community housing providers can generate efficiencies that the government alone cannot, creating a long-term impact.

“As large faith-based organisations with a connection to faith communities, our members can offer housing linked to a comprehensive range of support services within a setting of community care, a unique offering that allows them to serve people with complex needs and those who may never participate in market-based housing,” says Thomson.

“Delivering safe and secure housing is the foundation for individual dignity and community thriving. We look forward to our continued partnership with the Albanese Government to build a stronger housing future for Australians in need,” she said.
